EUTC Global is an internationally accredited training center based in Al Khobar. Our Lockout Tagout course is built around the international OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147 standard and the Saudi Aramco isolation and hold-tag system, so your team can work on Aramco and SABIC sites with confidence.
LOTO sits at the core of our oil and gas safety training in Saudi Arabia. Every course mixes classroom theory with hands-on practice on real lock and tag devices.
Why LOTO Training Is Mandatory for Aramco and SABIC Vendors
Lockout Tagout (LOTO) is the procedure used to control hazardous energy so machines cannot start up or release stored energy while someone is working on them. In Saudi Arabia, contractors must prove LOTO competency before they isolate any equipment on an Aramco or SABIC facility.
Saudi Aramco's General Instruction GI 6.012, Isolation, Lockout and Use of Hold Tags, requires that only trained authorized employees isolate energy sources during maintenance or inspection. It follows the OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147 framework and ties directly into the Work Permit System. This is exactly why LOTO appears on every list of mandatory safety trainings for Aramco vendor companies.
Most training providers teach a generic OSHA module. EUTC teaches both the OSHA standard and the Aramco "Lock, Tag, Clear and Try" verification method, so your authorized employees know how isolation works on a live KSA site, not just in a textbook. For teams that also handle permits and confined spaces, our LOTO course pairs naturally with work permit receiver training and the confined space entry permit step-by-step guide.
For a plain-language primer on the topic before enrolment, read our LOTO safety training guide.

Lockout Tagout Training: What You Will Learn
Hazardous energy control skills delivered by certified HSE professionals in Saudi Arabia
Course Curriculum
- Hazardous energy fundamentals: electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, thermal, chemical, gravitational, and stored energy
- The OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147 standard and the Saudi Aramco GI 6.012 isolation and hold-tag system
- The six-step lockout sequence, from preparation and shutdown through to isolation verification
- Lock and tag device selection: padlocks, hasps, valve and breaker lockouts, tags, and lockboxes
- Stored and residual energy release: bleeding pressure, discharging capacitors, blocking suspended loads
- Group lockout, multi-trade coordination, shift handover, and lockbox management
- Contractor LOTO responsibilities on Aramco and SABIC facilities and the link to the Work Permit System
- Re-energization and restoration: how to return equipment to service safely
LOTO works hand in hand with other isolation-based courses. Teams that enter tanks and vessels should pair it with confined space entry training, while crews monitoring atmospheres benefit from authorized gas tester training.

The 6 Steps of Lockout Tagout
Every LOTO procedure under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147 and Saudi Aramco GI 6.012 follows the same sequence. Our training drills each step until your team performs it without hesitation.
Prepare
Identify the equipment, every energy source feeding it, and the type and magnitude of each. Plan the isolation before touching anything.
Notify & Shut Down
Inform all affected employees, then shut the equipment down using the established procedure for that machine.
Isolate
Operate every energy-isolating device: open breakers, close and chain valves, install blinds, and disconnect lines.
Lock & Tag
Apply a personal lock and hold tag to each isolation point. One worker, one lock, one key. Group lockboxes for multi-trade jobs.
Release Stored Energy
Bleed pressure, discharge capacitors, drain lines, and block or lower suspended parts until the system reaches zero energy.
Verify (Clear and Try)
Confirm isolation by testing controls and instruments. Only when start-up fails is the equipment safe to work on.
Authorized vs Affected Employee
OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147 separates workers into two roles. Both need training, at different depths, before any servicing begins.
| Factor | Authorized Employee | Affected Employee |
|---|---|---|
| Role | Performs the servicing or maintenance and applies the lockout or tagout | Operates the equipment or works in the area where servicing happens |
| Applies locks/tags? | Yes, places and removes their own lock and tag | No, never applies or removes a lockout device |
| Training depth | Full LOTO procedure, energy types, verification, and restoration | Awareness of LOTO purpose and the rule never to restart locked equipment |
| Typical job titles | Maintenance technician, electrician, fitter, instrument tech | Machine operator, production staff, nearby crew |
